Beccariophoenix alfredii, also known as the High Plateau Coconut Palm, was first discovered in Madagascar in 2004. Since its discovery, Beccariophoenix alfredii has been brought into cultivation for its promising potential as one of the best palms for ornamental landscape use. With its striking tropical resemblance to the world famous Coconut Palm, resistance to cold temperatures as low as 25 degrees, as well as its tolerance to dry heat, it is no wonder this palm has been nicknamed the "California Coconut".  Palm enthusiasts in Southern California have been growing the High Plateau Coconut Palm with ease from the coast to inland regions. It performs well in full sun to full shade.
